On 16th May conference hall of Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw was filled with a spirit of young, european photographers for a few hours. It was the place where the Final Gala of 11th edition Paneuropean Photo Contest for Students Discover Europe 2014 was held. Copernicus Science Center is at present one of the most interesting facilities which combines elements of museum and exhibition hall. Therefore, it became the ideal place to open the second decade in the history of the competition.
The event, which aimed to give a summary of the competition and announce all the winners, known so far only for the jury and a small group of members of the OC, began at 18:30. Firstly, organizers welcomed more than 100 gathered guests, including representatives from universities, sponsors, local coordinators of the project, members of the board of ESN Poland, members of local sections, students and finally, the most important at this ceremony - the winners of the competition. Then, master of ceremony Adam Smoliński presented an outline of the Discover Europe history and its main goals. Marek Sokołowski, President of ESN Poland, and Tomasz Wojtaszek, Project Coordinator, gave their speeches and summed up the 11th edition of the Discover Europe. Afterwards jury member Simon Kobusiński lifted the veil of secrecy how jury deliberations looked like and what determined selecting the winning photos.
Knowing how the best photos had been selected, all were waiting for the most important moment - announcement of the winners. But before the audience knew the best young photographers, they had had the opportunity to listen to the young music band “Zagi”, which performed songs from its newest album "UKE". When the last song died away, all were waiting for the most important moment of the evening - awarding the winners.
Awarded photographers were gladly talking about the technique in which pictures had been taken and about theirs inspirations in photography. Then, gathered guests had the opportunity to watch an exhibition of the best pictures of this year's edition of Discover Europe.
The Final Gala was the official end of the 11th edition of the contest. Information of all the winners you can learn here. We would like to thank all those present at the ceremony as well as all the contest’s participants and simultaneously invite students to take part in the next edition of the Paneuropean Photo Contest for Students Discover Europe.
